COMMISSION VII 1976 — 1976 
The Commission VII activities concentrated on the application of 
new photo interpretation and remote sensing technology to environmental 
monitoring, vegetation damage surveys and resource inventories. The follow- 
ing working groups and several teams within each were set up: 
1. Experimental work in photo interpretaton (Federal Republic of Germany) 
2. Vegetation damage (German Democratic Republic)

@ (b) Extensively managed forest lands (Canada) 
(c) Agriculture (Hungary)

(b) Water quality (U.S.A.) 
6. Interpretation techniques (France)

On October 7 - ll, 1976, Commission VII held an International Symposium 
to report on and exchange information on these general topics. Over 200 persons 
e from 23 countries attended. A two-volume Proceedings of the Symposium were 
published and are available for $15.00 from the Canadian Institute of Surveying, 
@ Box 5378, Station F, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K2C 3Jl. The papers in the Pro- 
ceedings are grouped under the following topics: Land Use, Resource Inventories, 
Water and Wetlands, Environmental Monitoring, Vegetation Damage, Special Applica- 
tions, Geology, and Interpretation and Analysis. 
The Commission activities after the Banff Symposium continued on the 
application of remote sensing in water and wetlands, natural resource surveys, 
environmental monitoring, vegetation damage, urban surveys, and interpretation
