The philosophy of annotating pixel-oriented provides one 
of the most powerful tools. Fig. 4. explains the basic 
ideas. Roughly speaking 
- annotation channels are concerned with image pro- 
cessing, e.g. such a channel would be used to store 
a ratio image, 
pattern channels have to do with image recognition, 
e.g. holding training areas for or results of classi- 
fication procedures.
