In order to understand the method for calculating the spectral
reflectance factors from the MSS-data some technical details
of the Bendix M2S, which has been used within the German Remote
Sensing Programme, should be briefly discussed (figure 1) (2).

The MSS continuously scans the overflown earth surface whereby
each line consists of 803 picture elements. The field of view is
100 degrees, the IFOV 2,5 mrad, the dynamic resolution is 8 bit,
namely 256 grey levels are available for each pixel and for each
channel. The position and the width of the spectral bands are
given in figure
