surface area differences in this case are not expected to exceed 4.0% and
3.0% respectively with mean differences being practically zero.
It is evident that it is the accuracy requirements that will make the
final decision. The reported accuracy satisfies, nonetheless, practically
all accuracy requirements of anthropometry. The present work may thus close
with the conclusion that moiré photography-which has a number of advantages
over conventional photography- can be regarded as a suitable substitute for
direct anthropometry in leg circumference, surface area and volume determina-
tion. However, the assumption that measurements can be made by identifying
the sections directly on the moiré photographs, i.e. without premarking the
subject, remains to be experimentally validated.
