ABSTRACT
STARS ts an all-inclusive system for close-range photogrammetry con-
sisting of three major elements: (1) a new, large-format (23 x 23 cm)
terrestrial camera with interchangeable lens cones, (2) a powerful, desktop
computer system on which is installed (3) a bundle adjustment with self-
calibration especially optimized for the diverse applications encountered
in close-range photogrammetry. The system is designed to operate directly
on the output of any of several commercially available monocomparators.
ZUSSAMENFASSEN
1.0 BACKGROUND
Two decades ago Geodetic Services, Inc., (GSI), formerly the Photogram-
metric and Geodetic Services Division of DBA Systems, Inc., under the direc-
tion of the writer introduced to close-range photogrammetry a new technology
based on the bundle method of photogrammetric triangulation. Since then,
GSI has executed hundreds of varied close-range projects for government and
industry while continually pursuing research to refine the technology. This
research has been all encompassing, producing a succession of innovations in
theory, software, processes of calibration, instrumentation and field
