capabilities. The disadvantages of the method are briefly given
below:
1. Large information volume.
2. Difficulty in management.
3. Difficulties in point cloud processing (relative to the new
technolody).
4. “Noise” from information that should be removed (small
objects, grass, etc.).
5. The license number, which was given only to the computer
that the program was installed; This is usually a lap-top,
which could be used in field measurements, providing thus
limitations to the hardware capabilities.
All the above mentioned in conjunction to the extremely short
measuring time (one day for measurements, while using
photogrammetric methods it would be required at least twenty
days) open new prospects in such applications.

Special acknowledgement should be given to IMAGE
SYSTEMS s.rl, Via Durando, 38 — 20158 Milano, and
particularly to T. Mariani and D. Vitalli for placing CYRAX
2500 equipment at our disposal and for sharing their know-how
and experience. We would not get the above-mentioned results
without their help.
