TEST ON JOINT ADJUSIMENT OF GEODETIC AND PHOTO-
GRAMMETRIC DATA
This is a comment on the subject of Global Pos-
itioning System (GPS) which came up during the
previous Session. I just want to draw attention
to two presentations which were given at the ASPRS
meeting last March in Washington - two presenta-
tions on the dynamic GPS. One presentation which
was concerned with the performance of GPS in
dynamic mode. The other experiment was actually
flying GPS receiver with a camera system. There
is a very strong feeling in our organization that
you can obtain accuracy of a sub-meter with GPS
operating in a dynamic mode. We have actually
conducted an experiment which showed that an
accuracy of a decimeter level can be obtained.
We are planning more tests in the area of utilis-
ation of dynamic GPS to control photogrammetric
aerotriangulation. I recommend that if anyone is
interested in this subject, he might get further
information by contacting Mr. Jim Lucas of our
organization.
The program CALGE and the program GLOBO are now
for photogrammetric and classical geodetic net-
works. But there is an open discussion in the
University of Milan with prof. Sanso, myself and
other people in Milan to implement also the
measurement coming from special satellite geodesy
e.g. Doppler observations or GPS or laser satellite
etc. The problem is that we have two possibilities.
The first is to consider the satellite geodesy
treatment separately and update the input data for
the general adjustment of correlated coordinates
of a point. The second possibility is to implement
also the orbit treatment and the correction of the
observation for tracks and clock and other prob-
lems. The construct of integrated program also for
special satellite geodesy, but now there is not
enough time to make the decision, to prove the two
possibilities in making a good, operationally good
choice.
It is really very interesting to see what this new
data will bring to photogrammetry. There is a
joint meeting next month in Munich. We have
several papers dealing with the combination of
this new data and photogrammetry. And we are
looking forward to learn from these presentations.
Are there other questions?
