The role of aerial surveys in highway engineering is intrinsically a part
of the nature of aerial photographs and surveys for, and design of, highways.
A detailed chronology is given of the applications of aerial surveys in high-
way engineering. The applications are comprehensively presented for the pre-
liminary engineering stages and briefly for construction and subsequent stages.
Statements are made on electronic computers and on the procurement of aerial
photographs and photogrammetrically compiled maps.
