forstlichen Standortserkundung der GDR
(Some results in forest site classification by
aerial photography within the GDR)
As only a limited number of copies of this
paper was distributed, it will be reported by
summary.
Provisional results based on a detailed stereo-
scopic study of aerial photographs have shown
that such photographs can be an important help

for the delineation of site classes within forest
stands.
For that reason aerial photography on con-
venient photo scale is much used in practical
forestry in Eastern Germany. The technique of
site class differentiation is mostly based on the
Observation and measurement of the individual
crown sizes in each stand. Special research to
find out the possibilities of using a better film
quality is recommended in order to improve
possible results.
