Figure 2 - Low oblique taken by Captain Ragnar Thorén, R.Sw.N., on May 23rd,
1958, at 23.15 G.M.T., Lat. 89° North, Long. 10? East. The character of the ice
is different: the cracks are exchanged for leads, and between the floes there are
pools or polynyas as well, frozen but not yet snow-covered. The two polynyas
down to the right in the picture are abt. 650 x 1,300 ft. and the adjacent floes of
medium size abt. 1,300 x 1,800 ft.
