by means of aerial photogrammetry and electronic computation
The increasing contribution which lignite has to make to the production of
electricity in Western Germany m it necessary to open up new open-cast
mines in the Rhine area, which owing to the natural conditions are penetrating
to increasingly greater Gepths and more complicated storage conditions. It was
already foreseen in 1948 that future surveying of such open-cast mines by con-
ventional methods would be too expensive, and tests started after 1950, to
accomplish periodical tracing and quantit ty determination by means of PHOTO-
GRAMMETRY and ELECTRONIC technique, savi né both time and expense, were success-
fully carried out. The resul à piication of such procedures will be re-
ported.
