= development of a fully automatic contrast enhancement procedure
which gives excellent results on most images;
- a simple interactive procedure for contrast enhancement of images
which are not amenable to the automatic procedure which utilises
scene statistics from that portion of the scene of interest to
the customer.
Not apparent from the foregoing discussion, which is essentially
technical, is the critical importance of rigorous quality control
throughout all stages of product generation. This is relatively straight
forward for imagery but is equally important for digital products.
3 — DISSEMINATION
Products and Pricing
ALS products take the form of computer compatible tapes and photographic
imagery. Computer compatible tapes are generated in either
band-interleaved-by-line or band sequential formats at either 1600 or 800
bits per inch packing density. Imagery is generated at various map scales
ranging from 1:5 369 000 to 1:50 000.
Prices for ALS products have been set with a view to achieving full
operating cost recovery as soon as possible consistent with not stifling
demand. World parity has been used as the basis for setting ALS prices.
The aim of the ALS is to provide turn-around time on orders of two weeks
with priority processing available, at a cost premium, of one week for
Priority 2 and three days for Priority 1.
