4.7 MPS80 DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM
This program permits the user to drive the stereoviewer in terms of
plate or ground coordinates, or to drive to a position specified in
those units.
A dynamic test allows the user to check the repeatability of the stages.
Up to 10 locations in a model can be selected at a time, and after
selection, the stereoviewer stages are continuously sent to each
location in turn. At any time the user can halt this process and examine
any possible ioss in repeatability at any mark.
Another section of the program allows the user to check the commands
which are sent between the host computer and the stereoviewer. This can
be used to check the communication system as well as detailed
examination of the calculations within the viewer itself.
In general most users will have little use for the diagnostic software
except to provide confidence in the system after it has been shipped to
a new location, or after a change in the host computer.
4.8 MPS90 EDIT HOST SYSTEM DATA
To allow fiexibility in operation, the software has been designed to
operate with different peripheral devices such as VDU's, X-Y plotters
etc., as well as on different operating systems on the host computer.
Changes in devices, and changes in operating systems can in general be
handled without rebuilding the software.
As each program starts, it checks a master file on disk to extract
details such as the types of peripherals installed, and the current
operating system. MPS90 is a menu driven program which allows these
basic parameters to be set up or changed as required.
5. SUMMARY
The HPS-2 is a modern instrument specially designed for small format
work. While it is low cost and small in size, its accuracy and
performance is equal to that of many instruments in a far higher price
bracket. Efficient use of microprocessors and sophisticated software
have allowed a rigorous mathematical approach to the calculation
procedures whiie allowing the use of a low cost personal computer as the
host system,
