- functions that can be executed within one video cycle:
» arithmetic and logical functions: ADD, SUB, MUL, DIV, OR, XOR
« shift up to 16 bit
» computation of quantitative parameters
Microprogrammable Image Array Processor (MIAP):
- pipeline structure for optimization of data transfer and image processing
- 16bit parallel interface to the host computer
- microprogramm controller with sequencer, RAM for microcode, register file, etc.
- array processor: 16 bit algorithmic logical unit (ALU), hardware multiplier, several registers and
cache memory. Processing speed 10 MIPS
- software
* noise reduction (among others median filter and averaging)
» shading correction
* filters: gradient, Laplace, median, average, pseudoplast with programmable size and
coefficients of filter matrix
* linear and nonlinear grayvalue transformations
* image arithmetic such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, overlaying, division, masking,
integration, shifting, rotation
* histogram and statistical parameters for free definable curves, areas, objects or the whole
image
* image analysis functions and functions for computation of geometric object characteristics
* functions for display and output of data
* package for microcode program development with assembler and debugger
Memory Address Controller (MAC):
- Unit to generate the addresses for the image memory board (VMB)
- cursorgenerator which controls color, blinking, and form of cursor
- module to generate timing for the entire system
- functions for images: zoom, scroll, pan, split screen
Vi Memory Board (VMB):
- 4MB of dynamic RAM (expandable to 16 MB): for example usable as 16 images 512x512x8
bit. Images of any size up to the full range of memory can be defined. The memory can also be
used for 16 bit images with 2 bits of graphic overlay
- 4 Mbit for graphic overlay
- access rates:
sequential: 22.5 MB/sec for Input and 45 MB/sec for Output
* random: 500 nsec access time to any pixel
- simultaneous read and write operation possible
3.3. Work Station
- 14" color monitor with a resolution of 780 x 560 pixels
- programming and control terminal
- digitizer: size = 297 x 297 mm; resolution = 0.02 mm; precision = 0.1 mm
The digitizer can be used to control the cursor on the monitor as well as on the terminal, and to
create and manipulate the graphic overlay or the image
Additional programming stations are connected directly or by the network of the University.
3.4. Cameras
Currently the DIPS includes two cameras which are manufactured by Aqua TV in Germany. The
SM-72 uses the CCD image sensor TH 7861 from Thomson-CSF (France), whereas the HR-600 has
the CCD image sensor NXA 1010 from Valvo (Germany). Both sensors use the frame/field transfer
method which provides a better utilization of the sensitive surface and less Moiré effects than the
interline transfer method.
