ABSTRACT
The present work was carried out int the Casa Branca region (Eastern of Sáo Paulo State). The objective was
to develop a methodology using orbital images (TM-LANDSAT and SPOT-Panchromatic) to identify soil
erosion. Digital TM-LANDSAT (bands 3, 5 and 7) and HRV-SPOT panchromatic images were merged. TM
bands were transformed by the IHS enhancement and the resultant images (bands R, G and B) were obtained
after the displacement of the component I by the panchromatic SPOT image. The performance of the R, G
and B bands, for the detection soil erosion features, was evaluated with serial photographs.
