ABSTRACT
Agricultural reclaiming on the Loess Plateau of China has a long history, and the green vegetation
resources there are quite poor. Therefore, the various geomorphologic features with crisscrossing gullies
and the storm factors on the plateau have resulted in rather vulnerable ecological environment, and the
soil erosion has become a public hazard limiting local agricultural production development and people's
life improvement. This article, with the use of a great deal of information and data on resources and
environmental gained by the means of satellite remote sensing, analyzed a seriously soil-eroded province
- Shanxi Province on the plateau from a view of soil conservation. The article set forth the province's
geomorphology, composition of ground surface substances, rainfall, human activities, etc, and elucidated
the mechanism of soil erosion. It concluded that protecting and increasing green vegetation covering
areas and quality, rationally using natural resources and taking the road of comprehensive development
are essential to improve ecological environment and economy in the region.
