IAPRS & SIS, Vol.34, Part 7, “Resource and Environmental Monitoring”, Hyderabad, India, 2002
e Catchment area of the Nal Sarovar is devoid of tree cover.
Efforts should be made to increase tree cover in the
catchment especially in the immediate vicinity of the lake
and also in the salt-waste areas. This will help not only in
arresting siltation of the lake but also provide nesting and
roosting habitat to the birds.
e — Water is a critical factor for providing habitat to the birds.
Contingency plans should be formulated for drought years
to ensure minimum availability. This can be achieved by
digging bore wells or through Narmada canal waters.
e Withdrawal of water from the Nal Sarovar should be
regulated and in deficient rainfall years should not be
permitted.
