FUTURE GOALS
The future holds great promise for the Center for Photogrammetric
Training because of the technician training and applied photogrammetric
research approach we have taken. Technician training is constantly
evaluated to meet the needs of industry. Additional instruction in
Cartography, Remote Sensing and basic analytical photogrammetry : are
currently being considered, possibly at a higher level. These courses
will also draw students from other disciplines thereby increasing their
appeal to the college community. In addition, non-conventional
teaching aides will be developed to provide flexibility in curriculum
programming. These aides include tape/slide presentations, video
tapes, and computer-assisted teaching programming.
Applied research will also become important in the role of the
Center. Further studies are being investigated in the optical area of
the stereoplotter operator to increase efficiency and accuracy in the
compilation process. Other areas also under study involve instrument
design and computer interfacing. Simple methods of plotting table
automation are also being looked at.
CONCLUSION
Photogrammetric technician training at the college level should be
encouraged. It provides a diverse background to the employee such that
the individual could function in a variety of job settings. It also
lays the foundation that would enhance retraining and provides a
mechanism by which certification is possible. Graduates would still
require some training in the work situation but this period of time
would be much shorter. Thus, the employee would become productive in a
realatively short period of time.
