drafting table during compilation. A second foot switch trans-
mits point co-ordinates in the model to the computer.
The control console also contains adjustments for setting the
brightness and focus of the two photographic images on the rear
projection screen.
. Electronics and data processing compartments:
Situated to the right of the operator under the drawing table,
the electronics and data processing compartments are accessible
through doors on the right side. The electronics assembly is
separated into two groups: slaving, and acquisition. An input/
output coupler in the computer assures interface between elec-
tronics and data processing (TTL logic). The electronics as-
sembly consists of six identical systems from a servo point of
view. Two correspond to the two travel axes X and Y of each
photo stage, and two are for the X and Y axes of the drawing
table. The data processing compartment contains a 32K l6bit
750n/sec base time computer equipped with a holding battery.
The main functions of the computer are:
- responding to data output by the electronics, i.e. orders
issued by the operator and transmitted from the ball (X,Y) and
the drum (Z2), activation of mechanical brakes and electrical
limit switches, functions requested by operator (point trans-
mission, drawing, etc...)
- elaboration and transmission of piloting orders to electronics
controlling photo stages and drawing table.
- dialogue with operator via display console, and
- data recording.
The basic logic unit is modular and may be broken down as
follows:
a) preparatory phase:
. total or partial initializing (depending on whether work is
is new or renewed)
. forming the plastic image
. tilting and scaling, and
. calculations by various operators.
B. Graphical Version
The TRASTER drawing table is optional and may be added later. It
is situated to the right of the operator above the electronics and
data processing compartments. The very large area of the table is
directly accessible from the operator's seat. The useful area of
l.l by 1.4m permits making very large scale drawings. The glass
light table facilitates plotting and tracing on material to be
scribed. Both arms of the table's co-ordinatograph are of granite
and travel is provided by a system of tape drives. The X-Y carriage
may be fitted with a TV camera to display on the TRASTER console the
area being plotted without requiring that the operator move.
