The remote sensing products utilised by Developing Countries are mainly in Photographic

frames and Computer Compatible Tapes (CCTs).
The yearly acquisition of Landsat photographic frames by Developing Countries over the
period 1979— 1982 and of Landsat CCTs over the period 1975— 1982 are included in Tables 1
and 2.

Over the 4 year period (1979-82), almost 220,000 Landsat photographic frames were used,
as against a total of just over 13,000 Landsat CCTs over the same period.
This lopsided use of remote sensing products in favour of photographic frames arises from:

(a) the exorbitant cost of CCTs as compared with the cost of photographic frames;
(b) the necessity for non-available complex equipment required for the utilisation of CCTs; and
(c) the availability of fewer nationals of Developing Countries with the capability for utilising
CCTs.
