7.0 SUMMARY
7.1 The history of Photogrammery in Nigeria dates back to the late 1950's when aerial photo-
graphs obtained by the Royal Airforce were used for the compilation of topographical maps.
7.2 Federal Surveys undertakes most of the photogrammetric operations in this country. Mast of
the private mapping companies are ill-equiped and under-staffed; therefore they rely on foreign
technical partners.
7.3 The Photogrammetrist encounters several problems in Nigeria. These include problems in
legal recognition, instrumentation, availability of manpower, availability of adequate controls,
lack of adequate computing facilities and absence of photogrammetric research.
7.4 Photogrammetry will continue to be used for the production cf topographical maps in Nige-
ria for a long time to come. Furthermore, photogrammetry will also play a very important part
in the establishment of Land Information Systems which have to be evolved for any efficient
land inventory and land administration.
7.5 Finally, an increasing role for satellite imagery is predicted for the coming decades.
