| was very happy to hear from Mr. Adebekun, that in Nigeria the Nigerian Society of Photo- 
grammetry and Remote Sensing and the Nigerian Remote Sensing Society have joined forces. 
This is in tune with our international efforts. At our Commission VII meeting in Enschede we 
have founded the Joint Board of Remote Sensing Activities in which not only all International 
Societies concerned with remote sensing such as ISPRS, IAF, IEEE—GARSS but also all our 
recognised remote sensing societies such as AARS, ARSA, Earsel and Selper and also a:l space 
agencies such as NASA, NOAA, NASDA, ESA, CNES, ISRO and Intercosmos, are represented. 
In these times Commission VI can play a significant role of organise information exchange 
and to lay the framework for adequate measures of education, training and especially continuing 
education to be able to cope worldwide with the rapid technological developments. 
In this respect, Mrs. Adekoya, the President of Commission V! bel

Therefore ISPRS can look forward to a most fruitful Symposium and a good conclusion of 
the Commission VI Work at our Kyoto Congress. 
Congress Director Shunji Murai from Japan realises the needs for regional activities within 
ISPRS and he is prepared to offer special regional sessions for African, Asian and Latin American 
participants, since these are the areas where mapping technologies are very important for the 
development of the economy. 
We therefore hope to see a large participation from Africa at our next International Con- 
gress in Japan in 1988.
