OLAYINKA ADEKOYA (NIGERIA)
FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WORKS & HOUSING,
SURVEY DIVISION, NIGERIA.
ABSTRACT
The paper presents the tasks of Commission VI as defined under the Constitution of the
ISPRS, a summary of the reports and an assessment of the achievements of the Working Groups.
The constraints in the implementation of the tasks are identified and proposals are presented
for future activities of the Commission to ensure that concrete achievements are presented to the
Kyoto Congress in 1988.
INTRODUCTION
The tasks of Commission VI as defined by the Constitution of the Society, (BY LAW XI,
paragraph 2 Commission VI — Economic, Professional, and Educational Aspects of Photogram-
metry and Remote Sensing) are,
Economics and business management of photogrammetry and other remote sensing
operations; " s ;
Professional and ethical aspects of photogrammetry and remote sensing; '
+ Education, classification and retraining of personnel;
International exchange of information, documentation and research in photogrammetry
and remote sensing;
Standardisation phohagrammetry and remote sensing periodicals;
Bibliography of photogrammetry and remote sensing;
History of photogrammetry and remote sensing;
‘In the 1980 — 1984 period, attempts were made at initiating activities covering the entire
spectrum of these subjects. However, at the Rio Congress, it was obvious that some of the-Work-
ing Groups previously established to tackle some of the tasks had to be discontinued due to lack
of sufficient interest in the subjects.
The resolutions of Commission VI at that Congress therefore concentrated: in such areas
where further research was considered necessary and there were colleagues willing to carry on
work in these areas. | must add here that despite the fact that there was very poor turnout of
delegates at Commission VI Sessions, at the end of that Congress, one was bound: to conclude
that more interest had been generated in the work of the Commission and many colleagues
appeared to register genuine enthusiasm to serve. As a result, seven Working Groups were estab-
lished viz:
