ABSTRACT | 
The study result of dynamic monitoring land use change of Urumqi city using satellite | 
remote sensing approach is described. Three WRS 143/29 scence of TM images of Urumqi | 
city acquired on Apr.17, 1988, Apr.12, 1992, Apr.21, 1995 were registered each other with | 
high geometric accuracy and classified. Then, a set of variation maps of built-up area, I 
green lands, farming lands, water body were obtained by means of micro computer image I 
processing system developed by author. The main objective of this study is to research out I 
a method of image processing and applying techniques for this city land planning system. |

second part, selected the research area to 
reach study aim, and put forward the flow of 
study procedrue(Fig 1) and introduced the 
micro computer image processing system 
developed by author for this study . In the 
third part , applied several image processing 
techniques, such as geomatric correction , 
data compress, classification, etc. to the 
research area multispectral TM image in 
lands, water body were made and calculated 
the area for each land use type(Fig 2). 
Conclusion 
Through intensive researches and 
analyses mentioned above, we can reach 
following preliminary conclusions: 
1) This study, for the first time, carried out 
dynamic monitoring and analyses to the land 
use changes of Urumqi city and made a set
