them; /magine, has a single file (*img) which is
described in documentation, but just a very skilled
user can handle it from outside /magine environment.
b. When Multiscope perform geometric corrections to
images, the shape of the pixel remain the same and
the transformation parameters are written in a file;
when /magine perform geometric corrections to
images, the shape of the pixel is modified.
c. Module TopoLogic and Vectonsation algorithm can
be compared with Arc/Info — Arc/Scan. The functions
are similar, but Vectorisation algorithm can perform
just full automatic vectorisation which is not always
efficient. In this test, on brown mylar beside leveling
there were and other elements (raster of populated
piaces, so.) which need to be erased before
vectorisation. This was a time consuming operation.
d. It must be emphased that not all functions from
parent software were included in this prototype.
Up to now it was not decided the price for commercial
purposes of VIRGOS, even the name will be probably
changed. But, from our survey, the price will be 60% from
ARC/INFO — Imagine.
The added value for potential customers might be an
ready-to-use, user friendly integrated system at moderate
price, with rich sets of processing for both images and
vector data.
4 CONCLUSIONS
The VIRGOS prototype system, tested by DTM using data
over Romanian territory, is very good for compiling and
up-dating of topographic maps for large organizations with
a certain budget.
In order to use such a system for compiling and up-dating
of cadastral maps and plans we consider that it the
software must be ported to PC's with WINDOWS NT
operating system. By this way the aqusition price will be
drastically reduced.
