transportation for passengers. Nowhere has the technical 
development been greater, and nowhere has the advantage of 
cheap and rapid transportation, which is in itself such a 
feature of the end of the nineteenth century, worked greater 
benefit to the social condition of the people than in the 
Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
