Gebilden zusammen.
Precipitation Forms of Graphite in White Lime-Fluorite Slags
Reduced white lime-fluorite slags contain graphite, whose form of precipitation can be very
different depending upon conditions of melting and slag composition. In pure lime-fluorite
slags shells or spheres are formed. The tendency of formation of spheroidal graphite is
enhanced by additions of quartz to the slag. In slags with low contents of pure clay
spheroidal graphite is also formed, whereas fine graphite flakes are formed in those slags with
higher contents, leading to star-like shapes. In the presence of sulphur in the slag the
tendency to form spheroidal graphite continues, but here the spheres grow together into
fibrous shapes. If the iron melt, above which the slag is molten, contains aluminium or Fig. 1a.
silicon, the graphite content of the slag increases. The excess graphite precipitates in form of
coarse «platelets or in form of well-shaped hexagonal crystals besides the other forms of Fig. la
graphite.
