It can be further concluded from this investigation that during solidification of AlCu alloys
with about 4.5 wt% Cu the predominant part of the solid solution is formed at the
beginning of crystallization. This leads to a considerable disintegration of the melt, and it is
thus possible that there exists a temperature gap between solidification of the solid solution
and the formation of the eutectic in which no solidification occurs.
