METALLOGRAPHISCHE PRÄPARATION KERAMISCHER WERKSTOFFE FÜR DEN
MASCHINENBAU

Heißätzungen in
Kunststoffeinbettung erfordert. Leichter zu handhabende, beispielsweise optische Kon-
trastierverfahren sind nur teilweise anwendbar.
Abstract
METALLOGRAPHIC PREPARATION OF CERAMIC MATERIALS FOR MACHINERY
CONSTRUCTION
Hardness, ductility, brittleness and corrosion-resistance decide the mechanical and
chemical behaviour of technical ceramics in cross sectional preparation.
As for most of the examined ceramics, a similar preparation sequence is offered. Only for
fine grinding it is necessary to make the distinction between dense and porous material.
The visual microstructural development of technical ceramics is often difficult. Hot etching
in boiling acids or acid mixtures and thermal etching in muffle furnace respectively might
be necessary and requires previous removal of the sensitive specimen from the resin
mount. Methods that are easier to handle like e.g. optical contrasting methods are only
partly applicable.
