3DAP analysis has also its disadvantages. Accurate and reproducible positioning of the
feature of interest in the analysable region of the specimen is challenging. The most
common method to obtain specimen is the electropolishing technique. Although in nc
(b) EDX line materials, the probability of finding an interface during specimen preparation is significantly
enhanced, the process of electropolishing cannot be fully controlled and not all specimen
preparation attempts are a success. Specimen preparation using focused ion beam milling
is site-specific and an alternative, but influence of Ga implantation should not be
neglected. A weakness of the method is also the reconstruction of the data, especially in
case of two phase materials, due the different atomic density of phases and local
atomic scale magnification effects [11].
