5. SUMMARY 
Failure analysis in general, and fractography in particular are more an art than a science. 
Experience of the failure analyst are of the utmost importance for solving failure cases and 
to come up with the much sough-after root cause or primary cause of a failure. Failure 
analysis might be tedious sometimes. However, it is often thrilling. Metallurgical failure 
AISI 316i analysis in particular can sometimes be a very rewarding business. Some failure analysts 
are blessed from time to time with the indescribable, exhilarating "Eureka!" feeling 
Archimedes of Syracuse might have experienced when he found the principle named after
