As far as this approach is concerned the following comments are
appropriate.
1. The inter face was designed as a research tool to overcome
the limitations of a first generation computer.
2. While cost considerations for using the large computer did
not play a role-in the experimental stage it was hoped to
clarify for which operations a terminal supported dedicated
computer was suitable.
3. With the exception of the real time control via the 360 all
other uses were demonstrated as a research effort.
4. But it proved soon, that the software effort associated with the link
was only warranted for routine production which was to be
automated.
In the discussion of analytical plotters also those need to be
considered, which were build for the prupose of automatic image
correlation :
1. The AS-11-C and
2. the AS-11-B1, as well as the latest version,
3. the AS-ll-BX,
all produced by Bendix /10/, /11/, <•
4. also the Bunker-Ramo Unamace /12/
»
5. the Hobrough Gestalt- Plotter ^
The requirements for the-operation of automatic image correlation
devices are so special that they should warrant a more detailed dis
cussion in a circle of military photogrammetrists, except perhaps to
say that the flexibility of digital operations has proved extremely
successful in automatic image correlation.
