4. CONCLUSION
Recently the Spatial Laser Scanner technology gains increasing
importance for a broad spectrum of practical applications.
It is liked to emphasize, the most important for the 3D Laser
scanning technology are suited Spatial data presentation as well
as Spatial data visualization techniques.
The main benefit of 3dimensional data presentation is namely
the gain of a whole additional dimension. This not only holds
for image data but for Spatial data in general.
Within this paper samples demonstrate the necessity for a
combined gaining of Geometric and Radiometric Laser Scanner
data. Neglecting this requirements shows results lacking detail
resolution, which, depending on the task, might even lead to a
rejection of particular Laser Scanner results.
A combination of Geometric and Radiometric data obviously is
necessary, as already verified for advanced Spatial Laser
scanning technology.
The solid state FELIX-3D Computer with a real 3D screen
obviously seems to be best suited for Spatial visualization of 3D
Laser Scanner data in particular. The advanced solid state
FELIX-3D might even improve the whole Computer industry of
our century.
In addition a wide range of so far available conventional 3D
visualization Techniques is also suited for this very important
task. Beside simultaneous registration, corresponding
Geometric and Radiometric data can also gained from suited
spatial transformations of Radiometric image data into 3D
Geometric Scanner data.
Therefore the result of this survey of available 3D visualization
Techniques is dealt with, highlighting Spatial visualization
techniques, optimum suited for 3D Laser Scanner data.
In order to stimulate the research in visualization techniques for
3D Laser Scanner data, this paper in addition deals with a list of
more than 10 topics, which are still a matter of research.
Summarizing improvements in gaining, processing and
presentation of Spatial Laser Scanner data namely are expected
from progress in modeling as well as from software
improvements and from progress in instrumentation, Analysis
and standards etc..
Well including Spatial Laser Scanner data, according to
Hempenius today every discipline is influenced by Remote
Sensing techniques. As a matter of fact, like in all parts of the
daily life, the recent development in Spatial Laser Scanning,
including the field of Spatial data visualization in particular,
must deal with the world wide web.
