Photo 6
Unfiltered laser image of the crevasse pattern of a part of the Karlinger Kees/
Glacier, Austria. Crevasses are in black; the almost non-textured white zone
is covered by snow. The area only covers a small portion of an aerial photograph.
Photo 8
Laser image of the glacier crevasses of photo 6 with the vertical direction filtered
out (compare with the Fourier spectrum of photo 7b). The oblique crevasses stand
out even better now than on photo 6, but also the crevasses of deviating direction in
the lower right are more distinct. The latter are caused by the subglacial topography.
Laser image of the glacier crevasses of photo 6 with the strongly dominant oblique
direction filtered out as well as possible (compare with the Fourier spectrum of
photo 7c). The vertical crevasses clearly stretch much further to the right than
would be expected from the study of the unfiltered image 6. Some major oblique
crevasses are still vaguely visible near the right photo margin.
