The response was not total. Only eight (out of a possible twenty) answers
were received during the last year. However, ¿hese are somewhat
representative, being from eight different countries with diverse politico-
economic backgrounds.
The following general conclusions are drawn from these (the numbers
refer to the corresponding questions):
L 1. Some kind of cost-model is used, at least in calculating the total
cost of specific projects.
The economic fluctuations of the country is generally
considered. This is done, in some cases, somewhat
indirectly, e.g., in terms of cost of labor fluctuations,
depreciation of equipment, administrative overhead, etc.

Amongst the cost factors, (a) the ''Level of Use" considera
tion is done only in terms of generalizing or rounding of
cost figures.
(b) Inheritance is of great
significance. The techniques appear to be greatly biased
on available equipment, trained personnel. Even socio
political influences like Foreign Exchange limitations have
great impacts as one of the cost factors in some countries.
(c) Research and Development
are considered primarily to adopt accepted methods to local
(d) Amongst the input items,
generally "Materials and Equipment" is considered with
high emphasis, "Capital" with somewhat lower emphasis
(one member indicating no). On the other hand, "Labor"
is generally considered with low emphasis (one member
indicated no to this item).
(e) On the output items, one
member indicated no to all items. In general, however,
digital information is considered only for- aerial triangula
tion data or cadastral work and publications are generally
confined to short reports on the projects.
