This example too shows that the stereometric recording of an object
requires only a small portion of the time required for a photogram-
metric plot. It is thus advisable to document*the object photogram-
metrically on a picture and carry out the plot at a later date.

If, instead of the Wild P 31, the small, but just as efficient
Wild P 32 Terrestrial Camera is used together with a theodolite,
the acquisition costs for the photographic equipment can be further
reduced. To keep the cost of plotting equipment down to a minimun,
various groups of users have set up cooperative plotting centres
for terrestrial photogrammetry. A typical example are the centres
for analysing photographs of traffic accidents.
Such plotting centres can also be found in architecture, conser
vation of monuments, archaeology. In France, for instance, all photo-
grammetric plots of historical monuments are carried out by the
"Institut Géographique National" and the offices of the "Inventaire
Général".
In other European countries too institutes of this sort are known
and some of them have been engaged for years in the many-sided and
interesting work of architectural photogrammetry. In this connection,
the host country for the Conference of Commission VI of the Inter
national Society for Photogrammetry (ISP) can point with pride to
the centres functioning in Warsaw and Cracow.
Summing up, we can say that in most cases terrestrial photogrammetry
is more efficient than traditional measurement methods. The economy
of the method is confirmed in spite of the high investment costs.
Note: As a result of different currency values, we have stated the
cost portions for the instrument systems in percentages.
