unsystematic« The methods 9 standards and syllabi!, are
widely at variance and urgently require co-ordination for
a balanced development of the subject« Che other factor
obstructing the rightful growth of this subject is the
limiting factor of allottment of periods (time) to the
entire subject of Surveying in any course of instruction«
In the faculty system of our universities, Surveying forms
a constituent department of the Faculty of Civil Engineering«
There are no separate departments for Geodesy» Fhotogrammetry
Cartography and allied subjects« It is only at profess
ional training institutes that separate departments exist
for each of these subjects« Therefore» to increase the
number of periods for Fhotogrammetry within the total
allottment for Surveying» would imply reduction or even
elimination of certain existing items in the syllabus*
The resistance at this point is very high, particularly by
those faculty members belonging to the *old school 1 «
Nevertheless, a review of the syllabus to prune some of
the obsolete items in the syllabus has permitted aerial
surveying to be introduced to a small extent. The problem,
however, still remains to find the periods for introducing
photograrcmetry to a reckonable level, so that it may be
of use to the engineer after his graduation. •Surveying
Engineering 1 has yet to establish itself as an independent
discipline« Cnly then could Photogrammetry be introduced
as a separate subject« Meanwhile, a fairly good solution
by one Engineering College has been to offer Photogrammetxy
as one of the subjects in the elective group«
Subsequently, this is further developed in the post-graduate
courses*
Ihe national and other survey organizations have
progressively increased the use of photogrammetrie methods
to a very large extent« The various indentors for survey
products have consequently realized the tremendous
advantages from the point of speed, accuracy and cost-economy
of this technology« An awareness has thus come about of the
vast possibilities of the subject among professional-
(technical) organizations including educational bodies«
There is now a rapidly increasing demand for photogrammetric
