However the overlapping of signatures between the age
classes is possible, as for example between cultures
and saplings. It depends on the mixture and the in-
homogenity of the stands.
The evaluation of the multitemporal Landsat 5/TM scene
offered the following possibilities of differentia
tion:
Within the different tree types, stands of poplar
could only be clearly seperated from mixed deciduos
stands in the summer scene by using the signature
difference in the middle of the infrared (Fig. 5);
This difference may be caused by the differing mois
ture levels of site conditions and leaves.
