I am sure that many imperfections remain but I ask for your clemency since this
is the first time that this room has been used for such a purpose.
in order to make this symposium as productive as possible, we have
capitalized on all the connections and friendships that we have built up through many
years of international activity. We hope then that this symposium will be a successful
forum for new ideas as well as a strong coordination for the work of Commission VI for
the next two years and for the international Congress of 1992, in Washington.
Man Is more productive when happy. This is why, while giving emphasis to the
scientific work, we have not forgotten your pleasure. We have created a good social
program that I hope will be appreciated. Organizing the symposium was difficult for us
chanted the limited financial support that the State could provide at the present time.
It became possible, however, thanks to a number of sponsors whom for the sake of
brevity I will not mention individually. They are listed on the third page of the
program, and I thank them warmly since withour their kind support this symposium
would not be possible or at least it would have been completely different.
I believe that both the scientific and social activity will be very important during
the symposium, but what I consider even more important is the exchange of ideas, the
personal contacts and the friendship that will be experienced during the symposium. I
wish you a successful and pleasant stay. Thank you very much.
