The photographic methods of remote sensing of
the Earth from the satellite for studying natural
resources and environment protection have been widely
practised in the USSR. The bulk of multispectral
space photodata is acquired by unmanned satellite of
"COSMOS” series. Since 1989 new satellites of this
series have been put into operation and they are
equipped with new photometrically precise topographic
multispectra1 photographic camera MK—■4 . The camera
allows to get spectral images of the Earth's surface
in four surveying bands of 18x18 frame size, these
images can be used for both analog and digital
processing and have the ground resolution of 6 meters
at the survey scale of 1:800 000 and survey strip
width equal to 0.6 of the satellite altitude. The
survey is done with foreward and side overlap
necessary for photogrammetric procecssing.
