These fields of interest on principle are the same as
still today although the now common designations, intro
duced during the Kyoto International Congress in 1988
otherwise reflect the tremendous progress in science and
technology which took place during half of a century.
Now the following Commission names are valid:
I: Primary Data Acqusition,
II: Systems for Data Processing and Analysis,
III: Mathematical Analysis of Data,
IV: Cartographic and Data Base Applications of Photo-
grammetry and Remote Sensing,
V: Close Range Photogrammetry and Machine Vision,
VI: Economic, Professional and Educational Aspects of
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing,
VII: Interpretation of Photographic and Remote Sensing
Data.
Compared with the former common designations the impor
tance of information technology and Remote Sensing for
Photogrammetry is not only reflected but these discipli
nes have influenced the further development during the
last years very intensively.
Main task of Commission II from the beginning until today
was the photogrammetric restitution process although
construction and function of plotting instruments have
changed completely during this time.
The interest of photogrammetrists for instruments always
was very high. Not only for the Ilnd International Con
gress but for all of the following it was true what was
reported in 1930 in the German Photogrammetric Journal
"Bildmessung und Luftbildwesen": "The development of ae
rial photogrammetry and the design of plotting machines
was the magnet which united experts and interested people
at the Photogrammetric Congress in Berlin.”
