Full text: Proceedings of the Symposium on Progress in Data Processing and Analysis

- Sytems and Instrumentation for SAR Processing,
- Integrated Photogrammetric Systems,
- Optical Photographic Instruments and Methods for Re
mote Sensing (IC WG I/II).
During the current intercongress period we find the same
Working Groups as before with exception of the before
2nd WG which has got now the status of an IC VVG II/III
and is designated "Design and Algorithmic Aspects of Di
gital Photogrammetric Systems".
And what is now about the importance of Commission II
within the ISPRS ?
Bearing in mind the technological development Commission
II is still one of the basic Technical Commissions which
is responsible for the further advancement of image ana
lysis for the map making process. In this context the
number of scientific papers, published during Internatio
nal Congresses is nearly constant and amounts approxi
mately 10 % of the total volume.
In 1988 when the Society for Photogrammetry and Remote
Sensing in the German Democratic Republic decided to
apply for the presidency of Commission II it was obvious
that a lot of work would have to be done. The unanimous
vote of the the General Assembly by which our Society was
entrusted with the Commission II was very honourful but
also a great obligation. May be that the continuous ef
fort of our Society since its foundation in 1960 as far
as activities for the ISPRS are concerned and the long
tradition in designing and constructing photogrammetric
instruments in our country have influenced the mind of
ISPRS delegates.
So taking over the presidency of Commission II was not
only an honourful task but also connected with the obli
gation to promote the development and broadening of Pho-
togrammetry and Remote Sensing in our county and abroad.
The Symposium will give a first response whether we suc
ceeded .
