Abstract 
A proper cartography at a big or medium scale is often missed and that take us to wander how precise 
are the determinations of places from cartography at small scale. 
A recent experience was done with GPS, starting from cartography at small scale. The aim was to 
certificate some places, but the results made us to consider that the obtained precision was unsatisfied. 
1. Location of places and planning of 
survey 
The places, objects of survey 1 , are: 
1 The researching group of the area Survey and 
Remote Sensing at the DIMET (department at the 
University of Reggio Calabria) has obtained the job 
to survey the locations and the antenna of TIM 
(Telecom Italia Mobile, the italian company for 
mobile telephone) on the coast of Reggio Calabria 
and Messina. The operation of survey has already 
been done on the coast of Calabria. On the contrary, 
it was impossible to do the operation on tire coast of 
Sicilia. 
• GAMBARIE 
• RAVAGNESE (SARACINELLO) 
• PENTIMELE 
• RC CENTRO. 
Gambarie is in the hinterland, on the 
Aspromonte; the other three places are located 
close to the town.
