Figure 2 . Land use map of the study area. The map has been obtained from visual interpretation of the IR False
Colour stereo pairs. Take date: May 1, 1981. The 3 suspected areas and subframes are outlined.
Brief separate descriptions of the 3 suspected zones
follow.
a. Fosso Girisondola. Two sub-frames have been
cut out where the highest textural homogeneity was
preserved; they have been labelled G1 and G2 respec
tively. They concern with densely and mostly uniform
vegetated spots, with small foliage of the individu
al tree.
b. Lagoni. It coincides with the old exploited geo
thermal field. The sub-frame LG corresponds to an ir
regular deciduous wood due to different growing sta
ges. Dimensions of trees are greater than in the o-
ther considered sites.
c. Poggio Mauriccia. The subframe MA corresponds to
a woody area where trees show a more uniform structu
re than in the previous two cases.

Recent studies (Batini et al. 1985) have produced
maps where distributions of physical parameters of
the reservoir are plotted.
