1. CHARMAP - creates a user-selectable alpha 
numeric character map from a raster file at 
user-selectable scales

The CRIES-GIS-CHOROLINE module, used to 
produce high quality dot matrix printer maps 
with user-se1ectab1e or user generated 
patterns, consists of three phases and 6 sub 
phases : 
1. RASTOMAP - reformats a raster file into a 
CHOROLINE format 
2. PATTERN - creates pattern files 
2.1 - CODEPATS - creates new patterns 
2.2 - COMPATS - combines patterns 
2.3 - PRNTGRID - prints the pattern 
composition diagram 
2.4- SLCTPTRN - selects patterns from 
existing pattern files 
3. DISPLAY - prints patterns and maps 
3.1- PRINTMAP- prints the reformatted 
map files 
3.2 - PRNTPTRN - prints the pattern files 
The CRIES-GIS-UTILITIES module, used to 
create, edit, reformat and merge files, 
consists of 5 phases and two sub-phases. 
1. CREATE - creates a new empty raster file 
2. HEADER - edits and/or prints a raster’s 
file header information 
3. REFORMAT - reformats raster files and 
converts raster files and standard files 
4. MOSAIC - combines contiguous raster files 
into a larger raster file 
5. RESIZE - increase or decrease the grid 
cell size of a raster data base 
5.1 AGGREGAT - aggregates cells in user- 
specified increments 
5.2 DISAGGRE - disaggregates raster files 
in user-spec i fied increments (under 
development) 
To introduce users to the output of the CRIES 
- GIS selected examples are provided below: 
5. THE CRIES- AGRO-ECONOMIC INFORMATION 
SYSTEM (AIS) 
This section describes two selected modules 
of the CRIES Agro-economic Information Systen 
(AIS) as modified for IBM-XT or AT micro 
computers using the MS-DOS operating systen 
and equipped with a floating point processor. 
They include the YIELD and MULBUD modules. 
The YIELD model is adapted from "Yield 
Response to Water" by Doorenbos and Kassan 
(FAO, 1979). The MULBUD model was developed 
by Etherington and Matthews (1985) and 
modified for MSDOS. 
5.1 The CRIES - AIS "YIELD" model. 
YIELD provides the capability to predict 
yield response for a large number of food and 
export crops for user-selected locations and 
agro-eco1ogica 1 zones. The model, can be 
linked with a national data base containing 
agro-c1imatic data to predict yield response 
for locations, agro-eco1ogica 1 zones or 
regional and national aggregates. If the data 
base is not established, the user is provided 
with a data management option facilitating 
data input and editing for selected 
locations. Data requirements include:
