The M Sc and Diploma courses in both photogrammetry and surveying continue
to attract students in good numbers from all parts of the world. It is hoped that
British students in need of advanced course studentships will benefit from the
review of the courses which was undertaken, with favourable findings, by the
Natural Environment Research Council in 1975. The amount of undergraduate
teaching has increased. Courses are offered under the University of London
course unit degree system to undergraduates of University College and of other
colleges of the University, mainly from departments of civil engineering,
geography and geology.
Following co-operation with The City University, a tape/slide programme called
"Introduction to photogrammetry' (54) was produced in 1973. Its success may be
judged by the demand for 65 copies from a wide variety of organisations around
the world.
UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, Department of Surveying
Facilities exist for research in photogrammetry and postgraduate students may
be accepted for M Sc or Ph D degrees. Surveying may be offered as a subject
for the B Sc Joint Honours degree and this course includes photogrammetry.
NORTH EAST LONDON POLY TECHNIC, Department of Land Surveying
The Department offers a network of courses including a B 5c Honours degree
with a mapping (photogrammetry and cartography) specialisation, a course for
the photogrammetric option of the final examination of the Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors and a Higher National Certificate course in photogrammetry.
Short courses in both practical and theoretical photogrammetry are also run in
response to specific demands.
SCHOOL OF MILITARY SURVEY
A professional survey education, including photogrammetry, is given to selected
military officers of the British Army, probationers of the Directorate of
Overseas Surveys and officers and probationers of British Commonwealth and
foreign military and civil survey organisations on the Army Survey Course which
assembles twice a year and lasts for 14 months. Within the school, the Air
Survey Department also trains military air survey technicians and government
survey officers both as operators and as senior technical supervisors requiring
1
a high standard of knowledge in a comparatively narrow field.
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF SWANSEA, Department of Geography
Photogrammetry forms a substantial part of the postgraduate diploma in
cartography. It also forms a large part of optional courses offered to geography
undergraduates.
Institutions teaching photogrammetry as a subsidiary subject

University College of Wales, Aberystywth, Department of Geography
University of Aston in Birmingham, Department of Civil Engineering
