ABSTRACT:
In order to grasp the safety and the reliability of structures in maintenance management of structures, such as cultural properties and
buildings, it is effective to understand their visualized three-dimensional structures by recording their structural image with a remote
control system. Practically, photogrammetry involves some barriers in the size of the structures and its swiftness in data collection.
However, an integrated system in which enables to collect and manage three-dimensional structural shape and its damage
information systematically, is important for maintenance management of structures. It is also necessary to develop a system with a
three-dimensional GIS model to collect dimensional spatial data, to connect with various others digital information, and enables us
to review the results whenever we want. Such three-dimensional visualization system can also be utilized for presentation purpose,
besides can help engineers to make decision precisely and process work effectively. This system can be applied for civil engineering
structures and buildings widely, here, the utilization on preservation of cultural properties is highlighted. In this paper, the utilization
on the preservation management of the registered world heritage ‘Atomic bomb memorial dome’ is introduced. In order to manage
the current structural condition in a three-dimensional coordinates precisely, photogrammetry was carried out, and a visualized
system that can display each coordinate value was developed. Moreover, three-dimensional laser measurement system in which can
capture targeted picture simultaneously was carried out. The possibility of application on preservation management system was
examined by the comparison verification of each coordinate value. The development of innovative sensory technologies and their
application possibilities are also introduced as well.
1. INTRODUCTION

Photogrammetry was carried in order to grasp the current state
information in 3-dimensional coordinates of the Atomic bomb
memorial dome in which has been protected as one of the world
historical heritage. The fundamental information for delivering
to next generations was created by the Hiroshima-city since
1996.
Unlike the usual building, the most part of dome's wall are
curved surfaces in high intricacy. The total surface area of the
dome is approximately to 4000 square meters. To extract the
coordinates of outer and inner walls surface, marking fixed
points and making photography plans were carried out carefully.
Especially, photography of the central stairs room of this dome
was performed by remote control equipment that can be
photographed from the ground. In drawing measurement, the
projection sides were set up so that they might become parallel
to each wall's surface. The extracted coordinates of about 2
million points were built as a solid model in the computer, and
then elevation and sectional views were created. The
coordinates of each point can simply be searched by newly

In this paper, how to apply photogrammetry and information
processing technology in order to produce the effective system
for recording and restoration of buildings is described.
