Geometrical adjustment of the data to a basic mapping material 
using a polynomial transformation of a rigorous type. 
Considering an image and the respective map sheet as two plane 
spaces, the correspondence between the coordinates of the homologous points 
may be written under the form:

The functions f^^y) ... f 3 (x,y) are of polynomial type of the 
first degree, their coefficients being determined by applying the method of 
the least squares, using a sufficiently great number of pairs of homologous
