It has long been recognised that surveying and
mapping are essential pre-requisites for providing the
necessary data for planning of economic development of
a country* Photogr amine try as a branch of surveying has
been in use for over sixty years* During this period
photogrammetry has been established as the moot effic
ient method of surveying considering the aspects of
accuracy and speed* It is, therefore, natural that
all d eveloping countries should introduce photogramm
etric method of survey in their national survey organis
ations* Photogrammetric education should therefore, be
given increasing attention so that photogrammetry can
solve the economic and social problems of the developing
countries* It was heartening to soe the interest exhib
ited in photogrammetric educational needs of developing
countries in the Thirteenth International Congress of
Photogrammetry, Helsinki, Finland in 1976* - The experience
of India in organising its photogrammetric education
programme will be analysed*
