ITC TRAINING PACKAGE FOR PHOTOGRAMMETRIC OPERATORS (TPPO)

Abstract
The ITC presents an individualized "training package" developed to assist
Mapping Organizations and Educational Institutes to set up local
photogrammetric training programmes.
This training programme, which will be available in early 1991, is composed
of a trainee and a training supervisor's guide, a series of instructional
booklets, a set of training material and a specially designed PC-based Stereo
Plotting Simulator.
1. Objectives
Efficient mapping necessary for sustained industrial, rural and human
settlement development is not possible without Photogrammetry.
The training of photogrammetric operators is mostly carried out in the form
of in-service training in the Mapping Organisations themselves. However, poor
and sometimes non-existent training programmes, materials, instruments and
exercises have a negative effect on the employment of photogrammetric
operators. To assist Mapping Organisations to set up local photogrammetric
training programmes the ITC has developed an individualized Training Package
for Photogrammetric Operators (TPPO).
The TPPO has been designed to be:
- flexible, and through its modular presentation able to meet the individual
needs of trainees and employers.
- self-contained, by making the necessary learning/training materials and
equipment to support local instructors.
- learner-oriented, using self-study and self-assessment methods, but also
providing special preparation for qualified instructors.
The TPPO is primarily intended for in-service training of photogrammetric
operators but can also be used as a basic element of photogrammetry courses
at educational institutions.
?.. Target group
The training package emphasizes skills, but also includes the required basic
theory and information to complement those skills. Therefore some few years
of secondary education are required. It is also necessary that the trainee
can understand English text and instructions. Besides this, he or she should
possess good stereoscopic vision and preferably have some field surveying
experience.
